"Autumn foliage is expected to be visible at the nation’s major mountain areas starting in the early part of next month, or a week later compared to previous years.The Korea Meteorological Administration said Wednesday that autumn leaves at Mount Seorak will be visible around October third, while Mount Jiri and Mount Songni will see their leaves turn red starting around October 20th. Autumn foliage is expected to be at its most colorful at Mount Seorak around October 20th and at Mount Naejang around November sixth."
Keep your fingers crossed, folks that the weatherman has got it right.

Thanks for your question. Am still waiting for the usual schedule produced by the Korean Meteorological Administration for 2010 Fall or Autumn Foliage predictions but it's not out yet on the KNTO website. Will post it on this blog when it does come out.

If the initial prediction ( as stated in my blog) is anything to go by, the best time to see the autumn leaves in Seoraksan is late October. You might not see much after the first week of November so I'd recommend heading south towards Naejangsan - another great place.
Bear in mind, though, the weather can change things and be unpredictable!

We will be in Seoul on October 14-17, will we be able to see leaves change colors there, or any place near Seoul ?

Thanks for your question. The short answer is
autumn leaves are expected to change colour around Bukhansan ( the National Park just outside Seoul) arond the 22nd of October and the autumn leaves are supposed to be at their best around the 1st of November, according to the KNTO webpage. For the long answer, I'll post it later today.
Hope you can see the maple leaves in all their glory.

First of all, very sorry for this late reply.
To answer both your questions, a friend who's just back from Korea says the leaves haven't really changed colour yet around Seoul so you may be lucky enough to see some autumn foliage around the first week of November.
At the same time, KBS reports an expected drop in temperatures today so I'm not sure what kind of impact that will have on the leaves.

For info on Jeju, refer to Hallasan - leaves expected to look their best around 8th of November. But bear in mind again, Nature can be unpredictable!
